Dear Fellow Clifton Club Members:
I write this letter as we are getting a reprieve from this cold, snowy winter burst over the last few weeks. I know we spent a lot of time own at Clifton Beach walking on some frozen areas of the lake that looked more like a Star Wars movie, than the place we swim and socialize under the warm sun.
Beginning today, you will begin to see some changes happening on the property of The Club. We are doing a clearing of our property line, and will follow shortly with new plantings that will refresh the backyard, and make the next 30 years more enjoyable. We had a lot of thinning amongst old pines, and some overgrowth of vines, along with some trees that would wreak havoc if they fell that called for removing. We’ve talked about this project for a couple of years, and it’s finally becoming a reality. Our hope is that it will also create some gorgeous views of the sunsets from the Club property. I know I’m extremely excited about the project.
We also have gotten several inquiries on our railings in the front from members since the stairs were rebuilt. This will be addressed soon, as we have a temporary wooden railing up, in order to meet code requirements. We are awaiting ironwork to complete and the install will be done in the spring.
In an abundance of caution, due to COVID-19, the Club has decided to delay our annual St. Patrick’s Day party to Friday, July 16th. We have an agreement with The Portersharks to do an outside event, which we believe will allow us to show off our new landscaping, and also allow us to have closer to the normal number of attendees, as we’ll be able to space people out better in the backyard. I appreciate your understanding.
I want to thank Kathy Stringer, Gary Bessette, and their staffs for the wonderful job they’ve done to make both the in-club and curbside experiences top-notch. We are truly lucky to have leadership in place, as our Club does.
Finally, thank you to all of you for your support of The Clifton Club over the last year. Our members have been loyal and generous to our staff.
I look forward to seeing you all soon,
Michael A. Bentley
President, The Clifton Club
